Thank you very much for your reply. I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to write down how ou disagree with me.
Obviously, any good government would do a lot more than merey the points 3 and 4 you quote. Taxes pay for education, for a legal system that sees to it that financial transacions can be made and get paid. It pays for fire fighters that may stop companies from burning down. It sets up rules for the use of radiowaves so we can make calls on our cell phones and listen to the radio at the same time. I'm not saying any government is perfect, because governments are people and people aren't perfect. Democratic governments are 'us'. And sure, you may compare how much of your income goes to taxes with how much of your income would go to taxes if you lived in any other nation. But I say you should look at the entire picture, ot just what percentage of your wages you have to invest back into the community you live in.

quote:
"3. Taxes pay for a safe society."
"4. Taxes build and maintain infrastructure."

Well yeah I guess it's nice to have a food safety department to inspect the peanut butter.
The potholes on the freeways need to be repaired and somebody has to replace the light bulbs in the traffic lights.

But lets be truthful.
I mean seriously lets have some honesty here okay?
How much of my taxes is going to "core" services? ---> just a fraction.
Most government spending is nothing more then "income redistribution" aka "robbing Peter to pay Paul."
Government is an institution where I only get $1 back for every $2 I pay or was that $3!

You think I'm joking?
Look at Hong Kong, the top tier tax rate is only 16%.
That's all the taxes that's need to provide safety and infrastructure. So why am I being expected to pay 40%?
